Overview In this experience, students learn about the military and political leaders during the Civil War. Then, they learn about two recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor. Finally, they identify leadership characteristics in four of the men studied in this experience. Students will collaborate in small groups for scene 3 and scene 4.
The Civil War introduced a number of new and talented leaders. Military leaders were expected to guide their charges and face battles alongside their soldiers. Political leaders were required to guide their citizens and military forces alike, with the hope of winning the war. In this experience, you will learn about the different actions and leadership qualities that made these men great leaders.
