note on bulletin reminding to check for spelling errors, but note itself has errors

Have you ever been typing a text message and had the device’s auto-correct feature change your spelling—and your message? For example, maybe you sent a message that read:

Hi Mom, I’ll be humble soon.

when you thought that you were writing that you would be home soon?

Note that the following post is optional, because some students may not have a story or joke to share. They will be able to view other student posts as they are submitted. If the class does not make many posts, you can post several of the following samples to generate class discussion:

  • We’re wailing by the school entrance. (instead of waiting)
  • Let’s have tacks for dinner. (instead of tacos)
  • I’m too tired to place. (instead of practice)
  • A real sign on a TV news show read: School two easy for kids.

If you have a funny auto-correct story, share it with the class. If you don’t have a story, try to share a joke or pun that is based on a misspelled word.

Post your answer

Have students discuss the examples as a lead in to why proper spelling is important.
