The Pack contains associated resources for the learning experience, typically in the form of articles and videos. There is a teacher Pack (with only teacher information) and a student Pack (which contains only student information). As a teacher, you can toggle between both to see everything.
Here are the teacher pack items for President Lyndon B. Johnson:
In this experience, students learn about the presidency of Texas native Lyndon B. Johnson. They examine Johnson’s role in the civil rights movement. Next they learn about Johnson’s plan for “The Great Society.” Then students draft their own “presidential” domestic platforms.
Lyndon B. Johnson, also known as LBJ, was born in Stonewall, Texas in 1908 and was the 36th president of the United States. A former senator, Johnson was elected vice president in 1960 and became president in 1963 after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas. Johnson served as president until 1968.
Objectives:
Some of President Johnson’s greatest accomplishments as president were in the area of civil rights.
What comes to mind when you hear the phrase civil rights?
Discuss student responses. Tell students that there are many different types of civil rights, as they will learn in this experience.
