Students learn about two regions of Texas, the Great Plains and the Mountains and Basins. They identify cities, industries, climate, and natural resources that define the two regions. Next they define several prominent landforms. Finally, they write a persuasive paragraph explaining why they would prefer to live in one of the two regions.
Regions of Texas: Coastal Plains and North Central Plains
Students learn about the geography of the Coastal Plains and North Central Plains. They identify cities, industries, climate, and natural resources that define the two regions. They explain why the regions are broken into subregions. Finally, they create an infographic about one of the regions.
The Life of the Early Peoples of Texas
Students learn about the arrival of humans into Texas. They examine how people survived by hunting, gathering, and farming long before the arrival of the Europeans. Then they explain different tools and materials used by these early peoples. Finally, they analyze contributions made by Native Americans to our lives today.
American Indian Cultures in Texas
Students identify the four cultures of Native Americans in Texas: Gulf, Southeastern, Plains, and Pueblo. Then small groups research and write a report about a specific tribe. Finally, students analyze how tribes in a given region adapted to that region's environment.
