The Pack contains associated resources for the learning experience, typically in the form of articles and videos. There is a teacher Pack (with only teacher information) and a student Pack (which contains only student information). As a teacher, you can toggle between both to see everything.
Here are the teacher pack items for Reconstruction in Texas:
Overview In this experience, students take a poll of problems that arose in Texas during Reconstruction. Then they watch a video about Reconstruction and examine the Reconstruction Amendments. Next they learn about Radical Reconstruction and predict how Texans felt about the United States taking a role in Texas state politics. Finally they analyze a political cartoon of a carpetbagger. If you have access to leveled readers about Reconstruction or the related Amendments, assign them to the students in parallel to this experience. Estimated duration: 40-50 minutes Vocabulary words: Objectives
The Civil War ended, and the Union won. In 1865, the 13th Amendment ended slavery in the United States. After the war, the country entered a period called Reconstruction. During Reconstruction, people worked to rebuild the South, and formerly enslaved African Americans worked to build new lives as free people. In Texas, people faced important questions about work, education, voting, and equal rights. Reconstruction lasted until 1877, when the federal government removed the last troops from the South. In this lesson, you will learn about some of the changes and challenges Texas faced during Reconstruction. In the next lesson, you will study some of these issues more closely.
