The Pack contains associated resources for the learning experience, typically in the form of articles and videos. There is a teacher Pack (with only teacher information) and a student Pack (which contains only student information). As a teacher, you can toggle between both to see everything.
Here are the teacher pack items for Texas in the Civil War:
Overview In this experience, students label the six flags that have flown over Texas. Then they learn about the hardships on the Texas home front during the Civil War. Next they examine a map of the battles that took place in the South to infer why there were so few battles on Texas soil. Finally they learn about the end of the war and they create a poster celebrating Juneteenth. Students will collaborate in small groups for scene 2 to scene 4. If you have access to leveled readers about the Civil War, assign them to the students in parallel to this experience. Estimated duration: 35-60 minutes, depending on how much time you want to allow for groups to work on their posters Vocabulary words: Objectives
When the southern states seceded from the United States and formed the Confederate States of America, it wasn’t clear that there would be a war. South Carolina demanded that the United States remove its troops from the Charleston harbor. The U.S. Army moved the troops to a safer location within the harbor. It wasn’t long before the first shots were fired, and the North and the South were at war. The Civil War had begun. In this lesson, you will learn about the role of Texas in the Civil War.
