Mission Concepción, San Antonio

So far in this unit you have learned about some European explorers who came to the New World filled with hopes of finding riches to bring back to the royal treasury. These expeditions were expensive. They required large sturdy ships filled with crew members, with food and water for the voyage, and with weapons to fight off pirates along the way.

Imagine that you are a European king or queen during the Age of Exploration. You want to send another expedition to the New World. In a word or short phrase, name one way you might raise money to pay for it.

Post your answer

Encourage students to be creative if they don’t have any realistic answers: taxes, auction, piracy, bake sale, car wash, etc.

Students will learn how the Spaniards solved the problem in the next scene.
